Human rights activist and lawyer Professor Chidi Odinkalu has taken a strong stance against former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of treating people with extraordinary impunity, recklessness, and brutality while in office. Odinkalu, a former chairman of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission, believes that El-Rufai should face the consequences of his actions and embrace his current predicament with joy. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that El-Rufai is in their custody. According to a DAILY POST report, El-Rufai was arrested by Department of State Services (DSS) operatives shortly after being released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday. He was later handed over to the ICPC. Odinkalu highlighted El-Rufai's treatment of critics and the consequences faced by those who opposed him, including the disappearance of Dadiyata and the conversion of communities. He also mentioned the expropriation of lands and the demolition of houses of political opponents. Odinkalu questioned El-Rufai's hypocrisy, noting that he campaigned to bring the current dispensation to power and is now persecuting others. This bold statement invites readers to ponder the irony of El-Rufai's situation and encourages discussion on the topic.
